What does being a Madonna Velo member offer you?
As a new road bike rider, or someone wanting to return to riding after a long period, or even if you’ve been riding for years and just looking for some riding buddies, MadonnaVelo has something to offer you.
Our regular rides:
Mondays during summer (until around end of February): 6:30am – 8:00am (33km distance) from Storm Cycles, 415 Golden Four Drive, Tugun. This ride caters specifically to beginners / new riders, however everyone is welcome to join. Just be aware that we look after the newbie riders, and will go as fast as the slowest rider. The average pace of the ride is around 20-25km/hour. We head out exploring the beautiful Currumbin Valley, and have coffee either out in the Valley in the middle of the ride at a lovely little café, or back at any number of coffee shops in Tugun at the end of the ride.
Thursdays: 5:30am – 7:00am (28-36km distance, depending on the route). This ride usually leaves from Storm Cycles, but please check the MadonnaVelo Facebook page for details as we sometimes leave from different locations. This ride caters to beginners to intermediate riders. If you’re unsure if you’ll be suitable to join this ride, please do not hesitate to contact Sheridan on 07 5534 7450 to discuss in person. The average pace of this ride is around 24-28km/hour, depending on the route.
Weekends: We often ride on the weekends also. Not every weekend, but some. We change the departure place to vary the ride so we can explore our beautiful Gold Coast and the countryside. The distance varies from 40km to 120km. The ride description will be specific as to whether it’s for beginners or intermediate riders. Please check MadonnaVelo page on Facebook regularly for details.
On a regular basis we conduct ladies only clinics to teach you things like how to change a flat tyre, and how to maintain your bike, plus many more cycling associated skills. We announce the dates of these clinics on the MadonnaVelo Facebook page.
On a regular basis, we conduct MadonnaVelo Confidence Classes, which are four weekly sessions of 1.5 hours each. The classes are ladies only, aimed at women who would like to increase their confidence riding a road bike, riding on the road and in a group safely, how to change gears properly, how to climb and descend hills properly, plus many other skills. The aim of the Confidence Classes is to advance your riding skills, and to enjoy the freedom of riding together. As a bonus, you will meet a new social group of friends that you will probably end up riding regularly with. The Confidence Classes are $85pp total for the four weekly sessions. Suitable for road bikes or flat bar road bikes.
Our next Confidence Class run a few times a year. If you’re interested in registering for these classes (classes are limited to 10 spots only) please contact Sheridan.
If you don’t want to wait for the next Confidence Class to start, or don’t feel like a group environment is for you, Sheridan will be happy to arrange a one-on-one coaching session at a mutually convenient time. The coaching that Sheridan provides is basic road bike skills that will help give you the confidence to feel safer riding on the road, how to feel confident on your bike so that you can gain the maximum enjoyment from your riding. The session will cater to your requirements, whether that be learning how to use clipless shoes and pedals, how to use the gears properly and efficiently, how to corner, how to climb and descent hills safely, or a combination thereof. Sessions start from $45 for half-hour. Think of it as an investment in your cycling safety, an investment in your cycling enjoyment.
If you’re in the market to purchase a new road bike, we can help you. We take the time to discuss what type of riding you’d like to do, what your long term goals might be, and offer you options within your budget. We offer Specialized, BMC, Fuji and Scott bikes, so we have a wide range of bikes of all different shapes, sizes and price points available that ensures we will have a bicycle to suit your needs. If you’re looking to purchase a second hand bike, for a small fee we can provide a condition report on the bicycle, and advise as to whether it’s the correct size for you.
How much to join:
It’s FREE! There is no fee to come along and ride with us on our regular MadonnaVelo rides, and no fee for our clinics. As mentioned above, there is a fee if you’d like to join our MadonnaVelo Confidence Classes or receive one-on-one coaching.
